Some history on Peter Meier

Peter, who comes originally from Germany, emigrated to Australia at the tender age of 20,  where he began working in the hotel and wine industry.

His career includes 11 years  as marketing manager for ‘The Rothbury Estate’  Winery in the renowned Hunter Valley NSW.  Here, he headed up the ‘Rothbury Estate Society’ which, with its 35,000 members, was then Australia’s largest wine club.

In 1983, he opened  “Casuarina”  his own restaurant & country inn … a beautiful vineyard resort also in the Hunter Valley wine country, just north of Sydney.

 

Peter was also the Food Writer for the Sydney Sunday Telegraph from 1983 through to 2001 with a weekly column.  You can read some of Peter’s food articles HERE.

In 2001, he moved to the stunning Bay of Islands in New Zealand with his then wife Glennis.  They started their guest lodge “Cliff Edge by the Sea” which was followed by a second property, ” The Bay of Islands Lodge” which opened in late 2005.

Peter is a collector of art, a passionate but ‘ down to earth’ foodie and a lover of good wine and dining.
